This Friday, verse 3. Once again, text followed by literal translation and the familiar hymn version. (Text and poetic translation here.)
Veni, veni, Adonai
qui populo in Sinai
legem dedisti vertice
in maiestate gloriae.
Gaude, gaude; Emmanuel nascetur pro te Israel.
Come, come, Adonai,
[you] who gave the Law to the people
on the peak of Sinai
in glory’s majesty.
Rejoice, rejoice; Emmanuel shall be born for you, Israel.
O come, o come, Thou Lord of might,
who to thy tribes on Sinai’s height
in ancient times did give the law,
in cloud, and majesty, and awe.
